🌈 VIS / RGB (Visible Light) – 400–700 nm
  • What it is: The light that human eyes can see - all colours of the rainbow.
  • Human vision: ✅ Visible to human eye
  • How cameras work: See reflected light from the sun or lamps.
  • Needs external light: Yes - does not work in total darkness.
🔴 NIR (Near-Infrared) – 700–1000 nm
  • What it is: Invisible light just beyond red. Shows plant health and improves low-light vision.
  • Human vision: ❌ Invisible to human eye
  • How cameras work: See reflected light (like visible light, but different wavelength).
  • Needs external light: Yes - from sun or NIR LED illuminator.

🌑 SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared) – 1000–1700 nm
  • What it is: Invisible light that penetrates fog, smoke, and some materials. Shows moisture and material differences.
  • Human vision: ❌ Invisible to human eye
  • How cameras work: See reflected light (needs sun or active IR source).
  • Needs external light: Yes - but sees through haze better than visible light.

🔥 MWIR (Mid-Wave Infrared) – 3–5 µm (3000–5000 nm)
  • What it is: Middle infrared light. Detects hot objects, flames, and gases. Works as a bridge between reflected and emitted light.
  • Human vision: ❌ Invisible to human eye
  • How cameras work: See both reflected light AND emitted heat (transition zone). Best for high-temperature objects (300°C+).
  • Needs external light: ⚠️ Partially - can work with or without external light. Often uses cooled detectors for high sensitivity.
  • Typical uses: Gas detection, flame monitoring, missile tracking, high-temp industrial processes.

🌡️ LWIR (Long-Wave Infrared / Thermal) – 8–14 µm (8000–14000 nm)
  • What it is: Heat radiation that all objects give off at normal temperatures. Shows temperature, not colour.
  • Human vision: ❌ Invisible to human eye
  • How cameras work: See emitted heat from objects themselves - no external light needed!
  • Needs external light: ❌ No – works in total darkness, smoke, and fog.
  • Typical uses: Thermal imaging, predictive maintenance, security, medical screening.

Understanding the Spectrum (cameras point of view)

What Is It?
An RGB+IR module captures colour images and near-infrared (NIR) images in one device:
RGB sensor: sees visible light (400–700 nm) – natural colours.
NIR sensor: sees near-infrared light (700–1000 nm) – shows plant health, material reflectance, and better contrast in low light.
Both sensors share optics or are precisely aligned. You get one scene, two data layers.
At VisorOptix we make RGB+IR module based on the ONE image sensor with support RGB+NIR on one package

What Is It?
VIS sensor: sees normal colour images (400–700 nm) – like the human eye.
SWIR sensor: sees short-wave infrared light (900–1700 nm) – invisible light that shows hidden details.
Both sensors in one - this is solutions from VISOR OPTIX.

SWIR+VIS Camera Modules (Visible + Shortwave-Infrared / VIS+SWIR)

In MWIR module sees mid-wave infrared light (3000–5000 nm):
  • Spectral range: 3–5 µm (micrometers)
  • Sensor type: Cooled / Uncooled detectors (InSb/ MCT)
  • Special feature: Works in the transition zone - sees both reflected light AND emitted heat
MWIR cameras detect hot objects (300°C+) and gases that are invisible to other cameras. They need cooled sensors for high sensitivity. Framerates up to 4000 fps - is a main advantage of MWIR camera module from VisorOptix.

MWIR Camera Modules (Middlewave-Infrared / MWIR)

What Is It?
An LWIR module sees heat that objects give off, not reflected light:
Spectral range: 8–14 µm (atmospheric window)
Sensor type: Uncooled microbolometer (VOx / a-Si)
Output: Temperature map (thermogram) + visual overlay options
No external light needed. Works in total darkness.
